Special caps in non-standard shapes and sizes

Catalogue round, flat and square caps cannot cover every shape. For parts with a neck, side outlet, uneven section or unusual dimensions, VINYL-FLEX® makes special caps by dip moulding. They have no split lines or burrs and fit the protected surface precisely.

Examples of unusual VINYL-FLEX® cap shapes

Common requests include a Top Tap Cap with a neck for easy removal and a Side Tap Cap for parts with a side outlet. We also make caps for oval and polygonal profiles, integrated face seals, extended caps for longer threaded sections and shaped covers for multiple outlets.

When to choose a special VINYL-FLEX® solution

Choose a special cap when a catalogue one fits poorly, falls off during handling, does not seal well enough or might crack when fitted. An unusual shape may also be needed when a cap has two functions, such as protecting a thread while sealing a face, or covering a main opening while leaving a side valve accessible. Special shapes can also colour code complex assemblies.

Technical options for unusual shapes

Dip moulding follows even complex mould surfaces. Unlike injection moulding, it creates no split lines or burrs, leaving a continuous smooth surface. Flexible PVC can form undercuts that would prevent a rigid plastic part from being removed from its mould. Smooth soft or textured rubber-like finishes are available to meet grip and feel requirements.

Dip moulding can make almost any shape, including caps with necks, side openings, asymmetric sections, undercuts or integrated seals.
No. Unlike injection moulding, dip moulding has no split line, so the cap has a continuous smooth surface.
Yes. Flexible PVC has natural sealing properties. Material tightness has been tested with pressurised helium.
There is an initial cost for the dip mould, but it is much lower than an injection mould. At larger quantities, the unit price approaches that of a standard cap.
